Layne Tomlinson

Name/Age:  Layne Tomlinson/29

How long have you been a member: 5 months

Why did you join CFC:

I joined CrossFit Combustion because I was tired of always being the “fat” friend. My entire life up to this point was spent on the couch eating junk food with no physical activity. I knew I had to make a change. With the encouragement from Chris and Meredith (Coaches), I decided to give it a try and I immediately knew this was right for me.

What do you enjoy most about CFC:

The thing I enjoy most about CrossFit Combustion is the family we have here. Everyone is supportive and driven by a common goal. This is the first group I have been a part of where we all have different backgrounds, but no matter where you come from, the family will support you!

What goals have you accomplished while being at CFC:

With CFC, I have been able to do handstand push-ups, Olympic Lifts, and run a mile, all of which I never thought possible! CFC has completely changed my overall physical and mental health. I have struggled with anxiety/depression my entire life, and when I am at CFC, I don’t have those struggles because of the family we have there! I may fail at a lift, but with the encouragement from everyone, I will always try again!

What would you tell someone interested in joining CFC:

I would tell someone interested in joining, don’t be scared to come in and try it. We have all said it. The biggest battle is just showing up. Once you come and experience the coaches and members, you won’t be disappointed. Will you get a tough workout? Yes! But remember, everything can be scaled to fit your fitness level and the coaches are awesome at teaching these scaled options.

How has CFC changed your life:

I questioned at first whether or not I should use Combustion Nutrition. I ultimately decided to give it a shot. The Coaches were extremely supportive and gave great pointers. Nutrition is so important when it comes to changing your overall health and for me, this was something I needed to do. With Combustion Nutrition, I was able to meet both my goals in a month, and for the first time since high school, I am under 200lbs!
