[vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image source="featured_image" img_size="large"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

I started my CrossFit journey a little over 2 years ago. I have never done group Fitness or played any sports, so I really didn’t think CrossFit was something I would like. But I tried it in an effort to find something my husband and I could do together. I quickly fell in love and two years later I can honestly say that I’m obsessed. I’m doing things now that I never imagined I would ever do, much less enjoy! I love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I reach a new goal or do a skill that I once thought was out of my league. I’m 40 years old, a grandmother, and I’m in the best shape of my life.

What surprised me most about CFC was the supportive atmosphere, encouragement, and sense of belonging I found. Every place I’ve worked out in the past, I felt watched and judged. I felt insecure and out of place. But here, we are family and my success is celebrated by everyone. I’m pushed and encouraged by everyone from beginners to veterans. Whether we are one of the first ones to finish or the last one to finish, everyone celebrates every last rep. And outside of the box, I know that if my family needs anything, we can count on our CFC family.

With CFC, you don’t just get a great place to work out, you get a full team of great coaches that teach you every step of the way. Not only focusing on what you can do in the gym, but nutrition also! Although I worked out very consistently for almost 2 years, it wasn’t until I took my nutrition seriously that I saw the real results in my physical self. Yes, I had some success in the gym, but the change in my body came from nutrition. I joined the CFC nutrition Challenge to get knowledge and understanding. I wanted to learn what my body needed and how to make that happen for me. I went in to it not sure what to expect, but in a little over five weeks, I lost almost 10 pounds, almost 2% body fat, and 9 inches! I was shocked but it just goes to show how important nutrition is. Besides the victories on the scale, I am finding that my performance in the gym is much better as well.

I love having the full support of all of the coaches. And the nutrition program is something I’m finding to be extremely helpful for reaching my full potential and to help me get abs for Christmas![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

My entire life up to this point was spent on the couch eating junk food with no physical activity. I knew I had to make a change. With the encouragement from Chris and Meredith (Coaches), I decided to give it a try and I immediately knew this was right for me.

What do you enjoy most about CFC:

The thing I enjoy most about CrossFit Combustion is the family we have here. Everyone is supportive and driven by a common goal. This is the first group I have been a part of where we all have different backgrounds, but no matter where you come from, the family will support you!

What goals have you accomplished while being at CFC:

With CFC, I have been able to do handstand push-ups, Olympic Lifts, and run a mile, all of which I never thought possible! CFC has completely changed my overall physical and mental health. I have struggled with anxiety/depression my entire life, and when I am at CFC, I don’t have those struggles because of the family we have there! I may fail at a lift, but with the encouragement from everyone, I will always try again!

What would you tell someone interested in joining CFC:

I would tell someone interested in joining, don’t be scared to come in and try it. We have all said it. The biggest battle is just showing up. Once you come and experience the coaches and members, you won’t be disappointed. Will you get a tough workout? Yes! But remember, everything can be scaled to fit your fitness level and the coaches are awesome at teaching these scaled options.

How has CFC changed your life:

I questioned at first whether or not I should use Combustion Nutrition. I ultimately decided to give it a shot. The Coaches were extremely supportive and gave great pointers. Nutrition is so important when it comes to changing your overall health and for me, this was something I needed to do. With Combustion Nutrition, I was able to meet both my goals in a month, and for the first time since high school, I am under 200lbs!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image source="featured_image" img_size="large"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]Name/Age: Brad Johnson/41 How long have you been a member: I have been a member since October, 2016 In October of 2016, it finally hit me that I was tired of being overweight. Over 10 years of sitting at a desk for 8 or 9 hours per day, along with unhealthy eating, was taking a toll on me. That’s why I made the decision to do something about it. I wanted to improve my health, lose fat, and get stronger. I want to be around as long as possible for my wife and kids. I have tried going to regular gyms in the past. That always lasted two or three months before I no longer cared to go. I was self-conscious and felt that people were silently judging me. Also, I got bored of the same routine. I would try to find workouts online but they all involved the same basic routines. It was difficult to know if I was even doing the movement correctly. Joining CFC has made a world of difference. Even though there are other people working out with you, it doesn’t feel like they are staring and judging you. When someone finishes the WOD, they don’t pack up and go home. They yell encouragement for anyone else that’s still going to finish! That’s my favorite part of CrossFit and CFC. It is what has helped me immensely in my fitness journey. I’ve had so, so many days that I wanted to say “Screw this” and give up. It’s kind of hard to do that when the other athletes and coaches are yelling for you. That is what is so awesome. It’s not about who finishes first or last. It’s about finishing. The coaches at CFC are awesome! They always take the time to explain the WOD and help correct any form issues you may have. They don’t push you beyond your limits because they know that will only lead to injury. They will help you scale any movement so you can work your way up to doing the RX exercise. I have lost over 70 pounds of fat. The weight loss is only a small part of the picture. I have also gained strength and endurance. When I first started, I was lucky to run 100 meters without needing to walk. I have worked my way up to being able to run 4×400 meters during a WOD mixed with other movements. I have increased the amount of weight I can move for various WODs (squat, deadlift, etc.). Logging every WOD, even the ones I feel that my score was really bad, is extremely important. It has helped me see how much I have improved which encourages me even more to keep going. I would encourage anyone to give CFC a try. The way the WODs are varied will keep you from falling into a boring routine. You will also find that it’s not just a place to go, do the workout alone, and go home. It’s a community. The coaches and athletes really make you feel like you belong. Don’t be afraid to start because “I’m not strong like the other people working out”. Everyone has to start somewhere. You are only competing against yourself and EVERYONE at CFC wants you to win.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
