[av_layerslider id=’11’] [av_heading heading=’How CrossFit Combustion came to be…’ tag=’h3′ color=” style=” padding=’10’] [av_textblock] Well as with most things, there is a story here…

Greg Boyd started CrossFit completely on his own in 2007. He used the program to lose weight and get moving again. Even though he was/is a professional fire fighter he had stopped exercising and started eating poorly after his football days were done. He found CrossFit and the rest is history. He had lost lots of weight even before I knew him.

I went to work with Greg at the Spring Hill Fire Department in October of 2008. I was a typical gym goer. I lifted weights 3 times a week- bi’s, tri’s, back, chest, etc. and I ran 3 days a week. I was disciplined about going BUT, I never got any better. I was soft in the middle. I never got any fitter.

I would see Greg’s workouts and I started “stealing” some of the movements. I started asking him lots of questions about why he worked out the way that he did. I would ask about the different movements and why the workouts were different all of the time. I guess he got tired of my asking all of these questions and just invited me over to workout with he and Jason Daniel in Greg’s garage gym. Our partnership was really born at that first workout. I knew immediately that I needed CrossFit. Greg understands the value in a training partner or partners. He needed a workout partner and I needed a coach. So, that is how we started.

Greg coached me in his garage and in exchange, Greg got a workout partner with nothing to offer him except a buddy to workout with and push him some. We both just got better and better! As we consistently improved our passion for what we were doing it fueled the desire we HAD to share it with other people! CrossFit does that to a lot of people. It makes you feel, look and move better. You have to share it.

Greg had trained other people previously. As some of those folks came back to him for training, we discussed starting a regular schedule of some kind. We work different shifts at the Fire Department so, we could set a regular class schedule for our “members” and one of us would always be there to coach them. We talked about it, planned it, then we did it. This was in May 2012.

We trained 3 wonderful ladies (Elizabeth, Amanda and Shelly- love ya’ll) in Greg’s garage. We started with 5 AM classes 3 or 4 days a week. I’m sure Greg’s neighbors loved us! It really didn’t take long at all, just a few months and our numbers kept growing. We had to add evening class times. At the evening classes, sometimes we might have 8 people and sometimes no one would show up. You just never knew. But, we were just having an absolute blast. Everyone kept getting better and better including the coaches. This was a great opportunity for us to learn how to be better coaches in every way. We learned how to handle it when TOO MANY people showed up versus the equipment that we had. We learned how to constantly study video and text to improve our knowledge base.

In October or November we were at 16 members, we were out of room in the garage and it got cold. We knew that we couldn’t stay in the garage forever so, we took the plunge. In December of 2012, we moved from the garage to our current location at 3011 Longford Dr. with our 16 members and lots of passion.

We have grown every single month since moving into our very own ‘box’ space. The growth has blown away our projections and so have the results. We started CrossFit Combustion for the primary purpose of sharing what we know to be the best path to personal fitness in the world. It has made an indelible mark on our lives and the lives of our members. It works for EVERYONE, 100% of the time. You just have to show up!
